A Radio Host Asked About Last Summer
Host: Welcome back to Morning River. Today we talk with guest teacher Elena Ruiz about community gardens. Elena, when did you begin working at the Riverside Garden project?
Elena: I began last summer after a friend sent me a volunteer link in June. Two years ago I knew nothing about soil tests, but last summer I learned quickly because the team met every Saturday near the old bridge.
Host: What happened on a typical day last summer?
Elena: Last summer we arrived at eight and checked water tanks before the sun grew strong. Three weeks ago the project added new beds, yet last summer we worked with only six plots near the fence. Volunteers pulled weeds, planted tomatoes, and shared tools from a shed built five years ago.
Host: Did last summer bring any surprises?
