Our English teacher Ms Park asked the class to write about the best day from last term. Yesterday she pinned five essays on the board near the window. I read them during lunch and noticed how each story used dates and past markers differently.
Leo wrote about a football match six weeks ago on a muddy field behind the sports hall. Last term his team practiced twice a week after school, and that match ended with an equal score that still felt like victory. He described rain, cold fingers, and a goal he scored near the final minute.
Amira chose a science fair day from last term when her model volcano won a blue ribbon. Three months ago she tested the mixture in her kitchen sink, and last term she presented the result on a table covered with paper sheets.
