A Quiet Sunday Before the New Term

I am Hannah. Last Sunday felt calm after a busy summer of work at the bookshop near the station. My flat smelled of coffee and clean laundry when I opened the balcony door at nine.

I made toast and read messages from my brother in Leeds. He wrote about his new flatmate and a concert they attended on Friday night. I replied with a photo of my desk and a note about books I finished in August.

In the afternoon I walked to the park with my neighbour Iris. We talked about the new term at the college where we both study design. Iris showed me sketches for a poster project due in October.

Near the lake we sat on a bench and watched ducks move between reeds. Iris said she felt nervous about public speaking in her first seminar.
