My sister Lucia has pursued architecture since she had decided to leave law school at twenty-one. That choice had shocked our parents because she had always earned top marks in humanities courses before she had discovered design studios.
She had completed internships that had taught her practical skills textbooks had never covered. One firm had offered her a junior role after she had redesigned a community centre proposal. Since then she has worked on projects that have shaped neighbourhoods across the region.
Lucia has lived in three cities over eight years. Each move has followed contracts that had ended or opportunities that had appeared unexpectedly. I have visited her flats since she had settled in Valencia two years ago.
Her schedule has often included nights she had spent revising plans before clients had arrived for meetings.
