Diary Entry: I Had Never Felt So Nervous Before the Interview

Thursday, 14 March

I had never felt so nervous before a job interview until this morning. I woke before my alarm because my mind had replayed possible questions all night. Even the coffee I had brewed tasted bitter, though I had bought fresh beans on Tuesday.

By eight I had ironed a shirt I had not worn since a wedding last summer. I had checked the route three times because roadworks had closed a bridge I had used for years. The navigation app showed a detour I had never taken through the industrial zone.

In the waiting area I sat beside a candidate who said she had worked in the same sector for a decade. She had led teams I had read about in trade articles. I suddenly felt underqualified, though my mentor had insisted I had skills the role required.
