Diary Entry: Rumours at School
Friday, 14 March
Today felt strange from the first bell. During break I heard three different stories about the cancelled assembly, and I tried to remember who said what.
Leah told me that the hall floor was being repaired. She said that a technician had found a crack during a routine check, and she told our group that classes would stay in rooms until further notice. I wrote her words in the margin of my notebook.
Tom said that the cancellation had nothing to do with repairs. He told us that the headteacher was meeting inspectors privately, and he said that staff had been asked not to discuss the visit. Tom told me that he had heard this from an older student in the library.
Maya disagreed with Tom. She said that inspectors were not visiting this week, and she told Leah that the repair story sounded more believable.
