My First Year in Manchester After the Move
When I moved to Manchester last autumn, I knew nobody except a cousin who lived in a suburb that trains reached in twenty minutes. The city felt enormous, yet friendly strangers helped me settle in faster than I expected.
I rented a flat that overlooked a small park where dog walkers gathered each morning. My landlord, who worked abroad most months, asked whether I could check in by email if repairs were needed. I agreed, relieved that communication would stay simple.
During the first week I joined a library that offered free conversation clubs. A volunteer who had taught abroad suggested I hang out after sessions to meet regular members. That advice changed everything because I soon found friends who showed up every Thursday.
Work was demanding. My team, which included designers from three countries, often stayed late before product launches.
