The People Who Work in Our Building

I live in a block that has twelve floors and a small courtyard where children play after school. Every morning I meet people who keep the building running smoothly, and I am learning their names one by one.

The woman who cleans the lobby arrives at six. She knows every corner that collects dust and every window that faces the street. Residents who leave early often say hello to her because she always smiles.

The man who fixes the lift works for a company that serves many blocks in this district. He carries tools that fit inside a heavy canvas bag. Tenants who have lived here for years trust him because he explains problems clearly.

On the ground floor there is a shop that sells bread and milk. The owner who runs it opens at seven thirty.
