Moving to a New Flat: Questions for the Landlord
Before signing the lease, I wrote down everything I needed to ask the landlord. First I wanted to know whether bills were included in the rent, because online adverts sometimes hide what tenants must pay separately.
I asked whether the heating system was recently serviced and if he could tell me how much average winter costs reached last year. He said he was not sure whether records from the previous tenant were available, but he would ask whether the supplier could share estimates.
We walked through the flat and I asked whether any windows leaked during storms. He pointed to one frame and admitted he did not know whether sealant had been replaced. I wondered whether mould appeared in the bedroom corner, and he promised to check whether dehumidifiers helped previous residents.
