When the Proposal Was Rejected

I am Priya. In January our neighbourhood association submitted a proposal to convert an empty lot into a community garden. The plan had been discussed at three public meetings, and sketches had been drawn by local architects who volunteered their time. Nevertheless, the city council rejected the application because several safety requirements had not been met.

Residents were informed by email that the decision would be reconsidered if revised documents were submitted before April. We were disappointed, yet many volunteers said they would continue fundraising in case the project was approved later. If the first submission had included a drainage study, the vote might have been different.

The chairperson asked whether soil tests had been conducted on the site. We admitted that samples had been collected but results had not been attached to the file.
