Two Colleagues Debate the Restructure
Scene: office kitchen, Thursday afternoon
Tom: If the restructure had been explained clearly, people would not be speculating in the corridors. Rumours have spread since the announcement was posted without context.
Lena: I agree that communication could have been better, yet some changes were unavoidable after revenue targets were missed. Budgets were cut, roles were merged, and redundant tasks were eliminated by the steering group.
Tom: The steering group asked whether employee input had been collected. As far as I know, surveys were sent, but results were not shared before decisions were made. Had feedback been published, staff would have felt respected even if they disagreed.
Lena: Managers were told to hold team meetings and not to promise positions that had not been confirmed. I was instructed to document concerns and to forward them to HR without editing the tone.
