A Year at Greenline Logistics: What Was Changed and Why
When I joined Greenline Logistics as communications officer, the company was recovering from a difficult season. Packages had been delayed by storms, and customer trust had been shaken by errors that could have been avoided if routes had been planned differently. My task was to document reforms that were introduced by the new chief executive and to explain them honestly to clients who deserved transparency.
In January warehouse layouts were reorganised by operations managers who studied flow diagrams created by consultants. Shelves were labelled by colour so that fragile goods could be identified quickly by pickers, and heavy items were moved closer to dispatch bays by forklift teams working overtime. If the layout had not been changed, bottlenecks would have continued to slow every afternoon shift, as supervisors admitted during meetings that were held weekly in the canteen.
