The rapid digitisation of corporate finance has fundamentally transformed what it means to be an effective internal auditor. If I had mastered relational databases and SQL queries earlier in my career, I would conduct quarterly compliance audits in minutes today rather than wrestling with bloated spreadsheets for days. If I had embraced automated database querying five years ago, my professional capability as a forensic auditor would be vastly superior right now.
