I. Story One: Henny-Penny

Henny-Penny is a little brown hen. She lives on a farm with a lot of other birds. Every morning she goes out into the farmyard. There she looks for corn on the ground.

Henny-Penny likes corn very much. She walks here and there. She looks down and picks up a bit of corn. Then she looks down again and picks up some more.

“Good corn,” she says to herself. “Good, good corn.”

It is a fine day. The sun is out, and the sky is blue. Henny-Penny is happy.

Then, whack! Something small falls down and hits her on the head.

“Oh!” cries Henny-Penny. “Oh, my head!”

She does not look down to see what it is. She looks up at the sky. The sky is very big, and it is very high.
