I. The Darlings and Nana

All children, except one, grow up. Wendy Darling learned this when she was two. One day she picked a flower in the garden and ran with it to her mother. Mrs Darling put her hand on her heart and cried, “Oh, why can’t you stay like this for ever!” From that day Wendy knew that she had to grow up.

The Darlings lived at number 14 in a quiet London street. Mrs Darling was a lovely lady, and in the right corner of her mouth there was always a little kiss. Nobody could ever get that kiss, not even Wendy. Mr Darling worked in an office and worried a lot about money. First Wendy came, then John, then Michael. The family was not rich, so their nurse was a big dog called Nana. She was the best nurse in London.
