The Discovery of Lascaux Cave
In September 1940, a teenager named Marcel was walking in a forest in France with his dog, Robot. The dog found a deep hole in the ground. A few days later, Marcel and three friends climbed down into the dark hole. They were looking for an adventure, but they did not expect to find anything famous.
The boys were using a simple lamp to see in the dark. While they were exploring the cave, they saw something amazing on the stone walls. There were hundreds of paintings of horses, bulls, and other animals. People painted these animals thousands of years ago.
Did the boys tell their families immediately? No, they did not. They kept their discovery a secret for a few days. Later, they told their teacher, and he went to look at the art. Soon, scientists were visiting the cave to study the pictures.
