Alexander Fleming Was Cleaning When He Found Penicillin

In 1928, Alexander Fleming was working as a doctor in London. He was studying the tiny things that cause dangerous illnesses. His laboratory was small and always very untidy. In August, he left his messy room and went on a summer holiday with his family.

After a few weeks, Fleming returned to his laboratory. He was cleaning his old glass dishes when he found a strange one. He was looking at the glass when he saw something amazing. A green mold was growing there, and it killed the illness around it.

He realized that this mold could help sick people. Fleming discovered the famous medicine, penicillin, while he was tidying his messy room! Today, this medicine saves millions of lives around the world.
