My First Street Food in Oaxaca
Last summer, I traveled to Oaxaca in Mexico. One evening, I was walking near the main square when I smelled something wonderful. Many people were standing around a small food stall.
I walked over and saw an old woman cooking. She was making tlayudas, a famous local dish. The fire was burning brightly, and the meat looked delicious. I did not know any Spanish, but I smiled and pointed at the food.
While I was waiting for my meal, a friendly man spoke to me in English. He explained that a tlayuda is like a large pizza on a crispy tortilla. When the woman finally handed me my plate, it was very hot.
I sat on a wooden bench and took my first bite. It was amazing! The cheese was melting, and the salsa was spicy.
