Since We Moved to the Coast

Relocating from a bustling inland industrial metropolis to a tranquil seaside village completely alters daily domestic routines, personal priorities, and connections with nature. Twelve months ago, my family sold our townhouse in Birmingham and purchased an old stone cottage on the rugged Devon coastline. We have lived by the sea since last October, and the experience has enriched our lives beyond our highest expectations.

Before making the momentous decision to relocate, my partner and I had debated the move for nearly three years. We had finished several major corporate contracts in the city, but relentless urban traffic and constant noise had left us perpetually exhausted. We wanted our two young children to grow up breathing fresh sea air and playing along natural sandy shores. When we finally collected the cottage keys last autumn, we stepped into a completely new way of living.
