Have You Ever Climbed a Mountain? I Hiked One Last Spring
Outdoor adventurers often discuss remarkable physical journeys when they compare their past experiences around an evening campfire. Have you ever climbed a mountain above two thousand metres? That was the exciting question my friend David asked our hiking club during our annual planning meeting. While several members have traveled across the Alps and have seen spectacular peaks in Norway, I had never attempted an alpine summit until recently.
My journey began last spring when I finally decided to test my physical limits in Snowdonia. In May, four of us drove to Wales for a holiday weekend. The morning was damp and foggy when we started our ascent, but the weather cleared as we reached the steep rocky ridges. We climbed steadily for four hours, navigated rocky paths, and reached the windy summit at two o'clock.
