What My Friend Told Me on the Phone

Catching up with a close childhood friend after several months apart is always a delightful and uplifting experience. Last night, my university friend Daniel called me from Edinburgh, where he recently relocated for an architectural apprenticeship. We spent nearly an hour chatting about his new life, his creative projects, and the surprising challenges of living alone in a historic Scottish city.

Daniel told me that his new apartment was situated right below the ancient castle, offering magnificent views across the old town rooftops. He said that the stone streets were steep and winding, but he enjoyed walking to his design studio every morning. He mentioned that the Scottish weather was colder and rainier than he expected, so he had already purchased a heavy woollen coat and waterproof boots.

Our conversation then shifted to his daily routine at the architectural studio.
