I. The Big Egg

It is summer, and the country is lovely. The corn is yellow, like gold. The oats are green. In the fields there are big piles of hay.

A stork walks in a field on his long red legs. He talks and talks. And he talks in Egyptian! His mother taught him this language.

Around the fields there are big, dark woods. In the woods there are deep lakes.

In a sunny place there is an old farm. The house stands next to a deep river. Between the house and the water there are tall plants with huge leaves. The leaves are so big that a small child can stand under them. It is wild and green there, like the middle of a forest.

Under one of the leaves, a mother duck sits on her nest. She is waiting for her babies.
