I. The Old Donkey

A man has a donkey. The donkey is big and grey, with long ears, strong legs and dark eyes. He is a good animal.

The donkey works hard for his master. Every day he carries sacks of corn to the mill. The sacks are heavy, and the road is long. But the donkey never says no. He works in the sun, in the rain and in the snow.

At the mill, the miller opens the sacks and makes flour. Then the donkey walks home again. The next day, he goes back to the mill. One day goes by, and another, and another. Many years go by like this.

But time goes by for donkeys too. Now the donkey is old. His legs are not strong any more. His back hurts. Every day the sacks feel heavier.
