The Pyramids of Giza
The Pyramids of Giza in Egypt are among the most famous historical monuments in the world. They stand on a sandy desert plateau near Cairo.
At the archaeological site, there are three primary stone pyramids built for ancient pharaohs. The largest monument is the Great Pyramid of Khufu. There is also the monumental Sphinx statue carved from solid limestone. The Sphinx has the body of a lion and the head of a king.
Near the pyramids, there are smaller tombs, ancient temples, and camel paths. In the visitor center, there is an informative museum with artifacts from Egyptian antiquity. There are millions of tourists who visit this extraordinary archaeological wonder every year.
