We Do Not Eat Meat: Family Food Rules
I am Priya. In our house we follow food rules that visitors sometimes question politely at dinner. My parents taught my brother and me to explain choices clearly without sounding rude to guests.
We do not eat meat at home because our family prefers vegetarian meals for health and tradition. Does that mean we do not get enough protein? No, it does not mean that, because we do eat beans, lentils, eggs, and dairy products every week.
My brother does not like spicy food, yet I do enjoy mild curry with rice on Sundays. Does Mom cook two versions of the same dish? She does cook a gentle plate for him and a spicier one for me when she has time.
We do not buy sugary drinks for daily use, but we do serve them at birthdays only.
