She Asked If We Could Stay Longer
Family reunions often pass remarkably quickly, leaving relatives wishing that shared moments could last just a little bit longer. Last Sunday evening, my siblings and I gathered at our grandmother's countryside cottage for her seventy-fifth birthday celebration. After an afternoon filled with laughter, nostalgic photo albums, and delicious home-cooked meals, twilight began to settle across the garden, signaling that our visit was drawing to an unavoidable close.
As we began gathering our coats in the hallway, grandmother approached us with a gentle, questioning smile. She asked if we could stay for another hour to enjoy herbal tea and dessert by the fireplace. She wondered whether our drive back to the city was truly urgent or if we could postpone our departure until tomorrow morning. Her affectionate hesitation reflected how deeply she valued our company.
