I. The Lion and the Mouse

It is a hot summer day. A big lion is asleep under a tree.

A little mouse comes out of the grass. He is looking for food. He does not see the lion, and he runs right over the lion’s face.

The lion wakes up. He is very angry. He puts out one big paw and catches the mouse.

“Who are you?” roars the lion. “Why are you running over my face?”

“I am so sorry!” says the mouse. “I did not see you. I was only looking for food.”

“Nobody wakes up a lion!” says the lion. “Now I am going to kill you.”

“Oh no, please!” says the mouse. “Please let me live. Then one day I will help you. I promise.”

The lion laughs. “Ha, ha, ha! You? Help me? You are so small, and I am a lion!”
