Intercultural competence refers to the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with people from different cultural backgrounds. This skill has become increasingly important in our globalized world, where people regularly interact across cultural boundaries in business, education, politics, and daily life. Developing intercultural competence involves acquiring knowledge, attitudes, and skills that enable respectful, productive, and mutually beneficial cross-cultural relationships.

The knowledge dimension of intercultural competence includes understanding cultural differences in communication styles, social norms, values, and worldviews. This knowledge encompasses awareness of how culture influences behavior, expectations, and interpretation of social situations. It also involves understanding specific cultural practices, traditions, and historical contexts that shape different communities. Cultural knowledge is not merely factual information about other cultures but deeper understanding of how cultural frameworks shape human experience.

Attitudes constitute another crucial dimension of intercultural competence. Openness, curiosity, and respect toward cultural difference form the foundation for effective intercultural interaction.
