A Postcard from a Smart City

Dear grandma,

I live in Songdo now. It is a very famous smart city in South Korea. The technology here is amazing.

My apartment building doesn't have trash cans on the street. We throw our trash into special tubes in the wall.

The tubes suck the trash away under the ground. We don't see garbage trucks in our neighborhood.

I walk to the central park every day. I always see the beautiful tall glass buildings. The city uses computers to save energy and water.

My friend Min-jun works at the control center. He watches the traffic cameras on big screens.

He doesn't drive a car to work. He always takes the train because it is very fast and clean.

I usually take a water taxi on the weekend. It travels on the canal through the city.
