An Interview With Ben About His First Café Job

Reporter: Thanks for meeting me today, Ben. Our readers enjoy stories about first jobs. Can you describe how you started at the Riverside Café last autumn?

Ben: I applied online after a friend mentioned an opening near the bus stop. The manager called me on a Tuesday and invited me for a short talk on Thursday afternoon. I arrived ten minutes early and waited with two other applicants in the corner booth.

Reporter: What happened during that first meeting?

Ben: The manager asked simple questions about my schedule and my experience with customers. I answered honestly and explained that I studied hospitality at college on weekday mornings. She smiled when I described a school project where we planned a menu and served teachers during an open day.

Reporter: When did you actually start work?
