A Volunteer Spoke About the Animal Shelter

I am Jenna. Last month I spoke with Tom, a volunteer at the Oak Street animal shelter. He worked there every Saturday for two years before he moved away.

Reporter: Tom, when did you begin at the shelter?

Tom: I began two years ago after my dog died. A friend told me they needed help on weekends. I came for one shift and stayed for many months after that first morning.

Reporter: What did you do on a typical day?

Tom: I fed the dogs and cleaned their pens before visitors arrived at ten. I walked the quiet ones in the yard behind the building when the weather was dry. Sometimes I drove sick cats to the vet in a small van with a worker named Rosa.

Reporter: Did you meet many families there?
