Don't Touch the Stove — Kitchen Safety at Home

Listen carefully. The kitchen is a useful room but it has real dangers. Read these rules and remember them. Follow them every day.

Stand away from the stove when it is on. Do not touch the hot rings. Do not put your hand near the flame. Ask an adult before you use the oven. Open the oven door carefully. Use the thick gloves in the drawer. Do not use a thin cloth.

Do not leave the kitchen when something is on the stove. Stay near it. Watch the pot. Turn the handle of the pot to the side. Do not leave the handle sticking out. A handle that sticks out can knock over the pot.

Wash your hands before you start cooking. Use soap and warm water. Scrub for at least twenty seconds.
