Dad Was Fixing the Bike When the Neighbour Called
I am Ben. Last Wednesday Dad was fixing my bike in the garage after school. The chain was loose, and one brake was squeaking on wet days.
I was holding a torch while Dad was turning the small screws on the wheel. Mom was cooking upstairs, and our dog was sleeping on a mat near the door. Everything felt calm until the phone rang in the kitchen.
Mom was answering when Mr Shaw, our neighbour, said water was leaking into his hall from our side. Dad was wiping his hands on a cloth when Mom called him quickly. We were running outside together to see the problem.
While Dad was looking at the pipe under the kitchen window, Mr Shaw was pointing to a wet patch on his wall. Water was dripping slowly onto a bucket he was holding.
