The Day Everything Changed at Work

For three years I worked in a small marketing office on Green Street. My routine was predictable, my desk faced the window, and I usually ate lunch at the same cafe around the corner. That changed on a Tuesday in April when the company announced a merger with a larger firm downtown.

In the morning I was answering emails as usual when our manager called an emergency meeting. Colleagues were whispering in the corridor because rumours had circulated since Monday. I was not expecting official news so soon, although the signs were visible for weeks.

During the meeting the director was explaining new roles while staff were taking notes in silence. Some people were relieved, and others were worried about commuting to the new building across the river.

After lunch I was packing personal items because my team was moving floors within the same week.
