Saturday at the Community Centre
I am Hugo. Last Saturday our town community centre opened its spring fair, and my family volunteered for the whole day. The building sits near the river, and local groups use the halls for classes, meetings, and small concerts throughout the year.
We arrived at eight in the morning while staff were carrying tables into the main hall. Mom was signing a volunteer list when Dad was unloading boxes from our car. My sister Ana was helping label jars of honey for the charity stall near the entrance.
During the first hour visitors were arriving slowly with coats and shopping bags. A baker was setting out bread samples while a musician was tuning a guitar on the small stage. I was directing people toward the craft room when an older man asked about wheelchair access.
