How Our Neighbour Helps the Street

I am Omar. Our neighbour Mr Ellis lives in the blue house at the end of the street, and he helps many families every month. He is retired but active because he likes meeting people and solving small problems around the neighbourhood.

In spring Mr Ellis planted flowers near the bus stop, and he watered them every morning before breakfast. The soil was dry but the plants grew well because he added compost from his garden bin. Children smiled at the colours, and parents thanked him because the stop looked cared for.

Last winter Mrs Cole slipped on ice, and Mr Ellis brought salt and a shovel from his shed. He cleared the path in front of her door, and he checked other paths because ice is dangerous for older residents. Mrs Cole felt grateful but embarrassed because she did not want to cause trouble.
