How Our Street Changed This Year
When I moved to Oak Lane three years ago, the street felt quiet and a little empty on weekday afternoons. This year many things changed, and neighbours worked together on small projects because they wanted a friendlier environment for families and older residents.
In March volunteers planted trees on the empty corner plot, and children watered them on weekends with small cans from the garden centre. The soil was poor at first, but new compost helped because local shops donated bags after we asked politely.
Summer brought a weekly market on the square, and farmers sold vegetables, honey, and bread under striped tents. I bought apples there, and I met artisans who repair bikes and sharpen kitchen knives. The market is noisy but cheerful because music and conversation mix with the smell of fresh bread.
