Since We Moved to the Coast
I am Elena. My husband Marco and I have lived in Brighton for three years. We moved here after Marco had finished his contract in Manchester. Since that day our daily rhythm has changed completely.
We have rented a flat near the seafront since April 2022. The building has looked the same since the nineteenth century, but the interior has felt new to us. We have painted every room twice because the salt air has damaged the walls quickly.
Marco has worked remotely since the move. He has attended video meetings from our kitchen table every weekday morning. Before we arrived here, he had never seen the ocean from his office window.
I have been teaching at a language school since September. I have met students from twelve countries, and many of them have stayed in Brighton for years.
