Hostel reception has handed me a room key and a map of the old town. In the shared kitchen tonight, travellers from four continents have gathered around a long wooden table with pasta, cheap wine, and unfinished stories.

A woman from Chile has described Patagonia. She has hiked trails her guidebook has not mentioned, and she has slept under stars that have looked brighter than city lights. Her camera has captured glaciers she has wanted to share online later.

A student from Warsaw has talked about Erasmus in Lisbon. He has learned Portuguese phrases in markets, and he has missed his grandmother's soup during rainy weeks. Still, he has called the semester the richest period of his life so far.
