I Have Been Trying to Reach You All Day

Urgent business operations frequently demand immediate telephone coordination, especially when supply chain disruptions jeopardize pending commercial delivery dates. Yesterday afternoon, our procurement manager, Arthur, left a series of urgent voicemail messages on my office telephone. When I finally stepped out of a four-hour executive steering committee meeting at five o'clock and returned his call, Arthur answered with obvious relief, exclaiming: "I have been trying to reach you all day!"

Arthur explained that our primary packaging supplier in Rotterdam had announced an unexpected manufacturing delay earlier that morning. Because our production factory requires customized cardboard cartons to fulfill a major retail order on Friday, the sudden bottleneck threatened our entire assembly schedule. Arthur told me that he has been negotiating alternative shipping logistics with regional couriers since ten in the morning.
