What the Neighbours Said About the Flood
Heavy rain hit our town on Tuesday, and water rose quickly in the lower streets. By Wednesday morning residents gathered near the community hall to share information. I listened carefully and wrote down what people said.
Mr Hughes from Oak Lane said that water had entered his garage. He told us that he had moved his tools to shelves overnight, and he said that the pump he owned was still working. He told the council officer that drainage on his corner needed repair.
Mrs Khan said that her basement was dry, but she told neighbours that she had stayed awake to watch the level. She said that she had placed sandbags at the door, and she told me that her son had helped carry them from the store.
The café owner, Elena, told everyone that she had closed early on Tuesday.
