Advice from Our School Nurse

Every term I visit classrooms to talk about healthy habits. Students often think health depends on luck, but most results follow clear patterns they can control.

If you sleep eight hours on school nights, your memory works better in morning tests. If you stare at a phone until midnight, you struggle to focus before lunch. If you open the window for fresh air, you often feel less sleepy during afternoon lessons.

If you eat fruit instead of sweets at break time, your energy stays steady. If you skip breakfast, you get hungry early and find it hard to wait for canteen service. If you drink water during the day, headaches become less frequent in hot classrooms.

If you wash your hands before meals, you reduce the chance of catching colds. If you share water bottles, germs spread quickly through the whole year group.
