Moving In and Setting Up Our First Flat

Moving into your first independent apartment marks an exciting milestone that combines creative freedom with exhausting practical physical work. Last weekend, my partner and I finally collected the front door keys to our new rental property. Standing amidst dozens of cardboard boxes in the empty living room, we realized how much effort was necessary before we could comfortably settle down.

We decided to unpack methodically, tackling the kitchen first so we could make hot coffee throughout the day. We had to plug in the refrigerator, wipe down greasy kitchen shelves, and sort through boxes of cookware. Setting up our small folding table allowed us to eat quick sandwiches between heavy lifting sessions without spilling food onto the bare floorboards.

In the afternoon, we assembled flat-pack furniture that had arrived from the department store.
