Changing Jobs After Five Years at the Same Desk
For five years I sat at the same desk in a company that designed educational apps. The work was stable, and colleagues whom I trusted made Mondays bearable, yet I sensed I had stopped growing. When a recruiter who had contacted me earlier rang back with a new role, I decided to listen properly.
The interview process took three weeks. HR asked whether I could start after handing in proper notice, and my manager, who appreciated direct talk, agreed to a smooth transition. I promised to write down project notes so nobody would struggle after I left.
Leaving was emotional. Teams that I had trained brought cake on my last day, and clients sent messages thanking me for support during launches. I cleaned out drawers, backed up files, and walked through the office one final time, noticing details I had ignored for years.
