Interview About Learning English
Interviewer: Today we speak with Rina, who moved to Manchester two years ago. Rina, what motivated you to improve your English?
Rina: I wanted to feel confident at work; therefore I joined evening classes. However, the first months were tiring because I also studied grammar at home.
Interviewer: Which skills felt hardest at the start?
Rina: Listening in fast meetings was difficult. Colleagues spoke quickly; moreover, they used idioms I had not met in textbooks. In contrast, writing emails slowed me down less because I could edit drafts.
Interviewer: How did you build listening practice?
Rina: I started with short podcasts during commutes. Although I missed words, repeated episodes helped. Furthermore, I asked teammates to summarise decisions after calls. As a result, I caught key points even when details escaped me.
Interviewer: Did speaking improve at the same pace?
