Do You Know Why Flying Scotsman Is Famous?
Our railway club has a black-and-white photo on the wall. Our teacher points at the photo and asks, "Do you know which locomotive this is?" Maya reads the name and asks, "Can you tell us why its name sounds familiar?"
The locomotive is Flying Scotsman. It entered service for the London and North Eastern Railway in 1923. Our teacher asks, "Do you know when it entered service?" Ben checks the date and asks, "Can you remember which company used it?"
Next, we look at the people behind the machine. Sir Nigel Gresley designed Flying Scotsman. I ask, "Do you know who designed the locomotive?" Maya smiles because the answer is now clear.
Workers built Flying Scotsman at Doncaster Works. Our teacher asks, "Can you tell us where workers built it?" Ben looks at a map and wonders whether Doncaster is far from our town.
