Hospital Rules That Must Be Followed by Every Visitor

When my aunt was admitted to Riverside General Hospital, I learned how many procedures must be followed by patients, visitors, and staff alike. The main entrance is guarded by security personnel who ensure that only authorised people are allowed onto the wards. Bags may be searched by officers when alarms are triggered, and identification must be shown by anyone who wishes to enter after eight in the evening.

At reception visitors are registered by clerks who issue plastic badges that must be worn at all times. Contact details are recorded by hand and they are entered into a database that is accessed by nurses on each floor. Privacy rules must be respected by everyone, and patient information cannot be discussed in corridors where conversations might be overheard by strangers.

Infection control is taken seriously because vulnerable patients must be protected from germs.
