Letters Across the Season: What Friendship Requires
Letter one, early spring
Dear Ana,
It is your postcard from Lisbon that reminded me to write after months of silence. What I appreciated was the honesty about your difficult semester abroad. All I want you to know is that distance has not reduced my interest in your news.
The reason why I delayed replying was work, not indifference. What kept me busy was a certification course I finally completed last week. It is accomplishment that feels sweeter when shared, so I am sharing it now.
Letter two, midsummer
Dear Ana,
Your description of the internship made me laugh aloud on the tram. What surprised me was how quickly you adapted to laboratory culture. It was your mentor who saw potential I always recognised from our university days.
Summer here means evening walks by the lake.
