I. The Princess and the Pea: A Knock at the Gate

This is an old story about a prince. He wants to get married, but not to just any girl. He wants a real princess.

So the prince travels all over the world to find one. He goes to big countries and small countries. He meets a lot of princesses on the way. But how can he know if a princess is real? That is very hard. Each one has something that is not quite right.

“Is she a real princess?” he asks himself every time. “I am not sure.”

At last he comes home again. He is tired and sad.

“Did you find a princess?” asks the old King.

“I met a lot of princesses,” says the prince. “But I did not find a real one.”

One evening there is a terrible storm.
