Playing outside is very healthy for young people. Tag is a very popular playground game. In tag, one person is it. The person who is it tries to touch other players. When you are tagged, you become it. Tag makes children run fast. It is exciting and full of laughter. Kids play tag during recess at school. Hide and seek is another fun game. In this game, one person counts with eyes closed. The other players hide. After counting, the seeker looks for everyone. Hiding is fun because you find good spots. Seeking is also fun because you search for friends. This game teaches children to be quiet and observant. Hopscotch is a game with numbers on the ground. Children throw a small stone onto a number. Then they hop through the squares. They must hop on one foot. Hopscotch helps with balance and coordination. You can play hopscotch alone or with friends. Jump rope is a game with a long rope. One or two children hold the rope. Another child jumps over the rope. The rope moves in a circle. Jumping rope is good exercise. It makes your heart beat faster. Children count how many times they can jump without stopping. Duck duck goose is a circle game. Children sit in a circle. One child walks around the circle and touches heads. They say duck duck duck. Then they say goose and run. The goose chases them around the circle. This game is funny and makes everyone laugh. Red light green light is a running game. One person is the traffic light. When they say green light, everyone runs. When they say red light, everyone must stop. If you move on red light, you go back to the start. This game teaches children to listen carefully. Simon says is a listening game. One person is Simon. Simon gives commands like Simon says touch your nose. Players must only do the action if Simon says it first. This game helps children pay attention and follow directions. It is very popular at school. Four square is a game with four squares on the ground. Four players stand in the squares. They hit a ball between squares. The ball must stay in the game. If you miss, you go out. Other children take your place. This game is competitive but friendly. Playground games are simple but very fun. They do not need expensive equipment. Children use their imagination and energy. These games help kids make friends too. Playing together teaches cooperation and fair play. Every child should play outside every day for good health.
